Product Marketing?**
I’ve always enjoyed storytelling, and after studying English Literature at University, I thought I wanted to become a journalist. As a result, my first step on the career ladder was working in publishing for magazines and newspapers. It turns out that reporting on missing cats and charity fundraising events isn’t all that glamorous, and cats go missing all the time!

The shiny world of online marketing hove into view, and it really appealed to me. Here was a place where you had a platform to tell compelling stories, ideally so compelling that people would spend their hard-earned money on your products.
This is where another failed teenage ambition comes in handy because at eighteen, I had aspirations of being an actress. Acting requires emotional intelligence and the ability to inhabit the mind and motivations of someone unlike yourself. This is also a core skill for a PMM, you need to think like your ICP. What impacts them? Where do they place value? What do they need? It all helps you build up a character profile, which informs how best to market to your chosen audience in a way that truly resonates.
Product Marketing provides the opportunity to craft stories and continually try on different points of view. It ticks all the boxes for me personally and professionally.
There isn’t one thing… There are many.
Fundamentally, I like our products.
We build clever, time-saving, really useful, and innovative solutions for every aspect of last mile management. It makes my job SO much more enjoyable when you can really get behind the product and see examples of it making life better for our users day in and day out.
The Spoke culture is great.
Collaborative, smart, hardworking, fun, creative, and honest, it’s a breath of fresh air to work in a business free from bureaucracy and where decisions are made based on sound logic, not to massage investor egos or for the sake of appearances.
As well as our team, I really like our customers. They have such a strong loyalty to our products and they appreciate the efforts we go to to continually improve them, which means they are very positive and forthcoming with feedback and suggestions. That’s such a gift.

This week, I have been working on the campaign plan for an upcoming webinar. I’ve been coordinating with our PMs on the content and doing a tech rehearsal before the live event. Now it’s all over and in the can, I’m editing the webinar recording and am about to start proliferating all the post-event assets.
You will regularly find me on a video call with one of our courier customers or engaging with our delivery driver community on Discord in order to write case studies, gain insights, and harness user-generated content for use across various channels.
My next big project is storyboarding, scripting, recording, editing, and broadcasting a collection of masterclass videos aimed at helping our couriers optimize their account settings to get the most out of Spoke for Teams.
In addition, as and when new features ship, I get up to speed on the product changes and decide on the best course of action and assets to communicate that change effectively to our customers. There’s never a dull moment!
I have around two live meetings a week with various teams where we discuss product themes, project progress, the upcoming roadmap, customer insights, etc. It’s always nice to sync up and socialise, but the majority of my communication is done on Twist and Loom by text, video, and some expertly chosen gifs.

I think working at Spoke would appeal to someone who is curious and communicative.
You will love it here if you’re a self-starter who likes getting stuck in and is proactive about solving problems and finding opportunities.
We don’t have any unnecessary processes, and you’re expected to initiate, own, and drive your own projects forward. In that respect, you will have significant autonomy, and with that comes the need for a high degree of self-sufficiency.
There is a real sense of a shared goal among the team at this company to build the best products possible. If being able to play your part in that makes you proud and motivated, then Spoke is for you.
